Keep on the Alert for Copper Thieves
Laundry owners should be aware that the costs of metal has gone up so fast that copper piped water lines may be at risk. There have been a number of reports of thefts of copper tubing from laundry air conditioning units, heater room pipes and over head water lines being cut out of a laundry’s suspended ceiling.
At a laundry building site, a load of pipe was stolen overnight. It was all of the pipe for a fifty washer laundry. Most of that pipe was copper. It might have happened any time, but copper is now valuable, and easy to hock.
One laundry reported two copper thefts in a three week period. First, they broke into the heater room to cut and remove copper water lines. Next they ripped off the copper coils from the air conditioner. It was an expensive, messy time for that laundry owner.
